Atlanta, Georgia – On Saturday, June 14th, MINT presents “Employee Picks”, a group show that showcases the work of MINT’s favorite local artists. Each of MINT’s board member’s has handpicked several artists that they feel contribute positively to Atlanta’s creative scene. These artists’ mediums and methods vary - from design, animation and photography to drawing, painting and conceptualism. As one of MINT’s primary goals is to provide a space in which established artists and less experienced creatives are both given rein, this exhibit will provide an interesting juxtaposition and view of the spectrum of creativity that Atlanta has to offer. While each “pick” has varying degrees of training and expertise, they each present thoughtful and insightful pieces that should not be overlooked. Through the works of these selected artists, we get a glimpse into the tastes and opinions of the minds behind MINT.

Selected artists include: Grace Bellury, Christina Bowman, Dane, Stephanie Dowda and John Paul Floyd (Click Clique), Kathryn Forrester, Ben Goldman, Gutterpop, Matthew Manning, Joy Phrasavath, Caroline Powers, Squanto, Scott Raffield, Bryan Westberry, and Mack Williams.

MINT is a non-profit organization located in Atlanta, Georgia that is dedicated to providing a networking conduit for Georgia’s art communities. Our goal is to facilitate a non-judgmental environment where ideas can be exchanged freely through classes, networking events and exhibitions. MINT believes that fostering the creative impulses of the community will provide an outlet for imagination and cooperation by bringing together both accomplished and novice artists. MINT is located at 684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave, Unit B, Atlanta, GA 30312. Mint Gallery

I know you all have been there, stuck in the awfull gridlock that plagues Peachtree street. Just trying to make it a few blocks to the bank, or some other destination that the daily errands takes you to. Yup, your setting there hating life behind the wheel, when ZOOM! A dude on a bike flys by and wakes you from your daydreams. You look up but traffic still has you waiting for that light to change. Well just maybe that dude was one of the few proud messengers that traverse our citys 9-5 life. Our friend John Prince has teamed up with Atlanta’s messenger owned track bike boutique No Brakes to create a series of portraits of the city’s bravest on two wheels. Check out NoBrakes to see the photos and the shop. Then check JohnPrincephotography to see more of John’s work.

KA-CHUNK: A Medium Format Juried Exhibition
May 3rd – May 17th
Opening Reception, May 3rd 6-9 pm
Gallery Hours Thursday – Saturday 12 -7 pm

The Opal Gallery is pleased to announce the opening for a juried exhibition of medium format photography, KA-CHUNK. This is the first juried exhibition for The Opal Gallery. KA-CHUNK is organized by a Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta graduate student, Lee Jones and juried Stephanie Dowda and Constance Lewis. The jurors selected submitted works by Atlanta artists who embrace medium format photography at a time when digital prevails.

Artists exhibited include: Allyson Ross, Darin Melton, Julie Sims, Travis Dodd, Lee Jones, Meegan McNeer, Stevie Brown, Chris Carder, Michael David Murphy and Nicole Akstein.

JURORS STATEMENT
In a world dominated by increasingly sophisticated technology, the medium format camera provides a unique means of expression for these ten Atlanta-based photographers. Perhaps it is the bulky body of the camera or the obscured and flipped view of the world that requires one to enter special state of mind during the process. Or the large negative produced by this type of camera which allows more “chance” to enter the framework. And once you hear the shutter close, “Ka-Chunk”, you know you’ve got something. The image is burned on the negative and becomes the photographer’s. In each of the photographs selected for this exhibition, the meditative moment was realized. The overall tone is a quiet and observed instant that defines each photographer’s eye.
